/ 25 September 2020

SENATOR Francis Tolentino on Thursday proposed to the Supreme Court the holding of online bar examinations.

Tolentino made the suggestion when Supreme Court Chief Justice Diosdado Peralta attended the Senate hearing on the judiciary’s proposed 2021 budget.

The senator, who is also a lawyer, said online Bar examinations are being considered in the United States, such as Michigan, District of Columbia, Louisiana and New York.

Peralta replied that the high court is looking into the possibility of implementing an online Bar examination next year, to be held simultaneously in Manila, Visayas and Mindanao.

“Next year probably, not this year, wala na this year,” Peralta told Tolentino.

“We have already decided, your honor, that we will not hold anymore 2020 bar exams. We have moved the bar exams to November 2021. So there’s no more bar exams this 2020. So ang mangyayari magkakasabay ang 2020 at 2021,” he said.
