DOJ URGES SERVICE PROVIDERS TO ENSURE THE PROTECTION OF CHILDREN AGAINST ONLINE ABUSE
DEPARTMENT of Justice Undersecretary Nicolas Ty has called on the service providers to have measures and ensure the protection of children against online abuse and exploitation.
“We also enjoin the private sector, particularly internet intermediaries and service providers to leverage their technological expertise to implement safety measures such as age verification systems, robust content moderation filters, and user-friendly mechanisms to prevent further harm to children,” Ty said during the event celebrating Safer Internet Day.
Ty also said that the government would be able to safeguard technology while defending people’s freedom to obtain information through cooperation with the private sector.
The National Coordination Center Against Online Sexual Abuse or Exploitation of Children and Child Sexual Abuse or Exploitation Materials, in partnership with Plan International Pilipinas and with the support of UNICEF Philippines, took the lead in commemorating the Safer Internet Day 2024 on Tuesday.
“This momentous event serves as a powerful reminder of the collective responsibility to protect children in the digital realm, a key goal towards realizing the vision of a #BagongPilipinas,” DOJ said.
Every second Tuesday of February has been declared as the “Safer Internet Day for Children Philippines,” under the Presidential Proclamation No. 417 series of 2018.
