DOJ ASSURES MARCOS ADMIN’S COMMITMENT IN PROTECTING CHILDREN VS ONLINE EXPLOITATION

/ 19 June 2024

JUSTICE Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla on Tuesday assured that the government is committed to protecting children from online exploitation.

The official’s assurance came after they recommended filing a criminal case against a certain Bench Ortillano Lee for allegedly violating Republic Act No. 11930 or the Anti-Online Sexual Abuse or Exploitation of Children and Anti-Child Sexual Abuse or Exploitation Materials Act.

“This sends a clear message to perpetrators that justice will prevail, and the law will be enforced to its fullest extent,” Remulla said.

The case stemmed from information received by the National Bureau of Investigation about Lee selling explicit videos and photos of boys through the online platform Telegram.

Through an undercover agent, the NBI was able to connect with Lee, who asked for P499 in exchange for lifetime access to his account containing more than 200 uncensored content.

A warrant was issued by the Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 4 and after the operation, mobile phones were seized from Lee.

The DOJ further said that Lee has videos of him engaging in sexual activity with a Grade 9 student as well as other individuals labeled in his phone as ‘Bagets’ and ‘Bata’.
