DEPED URGED TO ALLOT ADEQUATE FUNDING FOR INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS

/ 14 January 2022

SENATOR Nancy Binay on Thursday asked the Department of Education to ensure adequate funding for school annexes that will be separated and converted into independent educational institutions.

During the virtual hearing of the Senate Committee on Basic Education, Arts and Culture, Binay said that the separation of schools will entail budgetary requirements for their maintenance and operation.

“Sayang naman ‘yung approval natin kung wala palang budgetary support coming from DepEd,” Binay said.

The committee chaired by Senator Sherwin Gatchalian approved for plenary deliberation nine bills seeking to rename, separate and convert some schools in the Philippines.

Among the approved bills is the separation of school annexes of the Marcelo Green National High School in Parañaque City; Turague NAtional High School in Camarines Sur; Bag-ong Valencia Agricultural National High School and Labangon Subanen Agricultural National High School, both in Zamboanga del Sur; and Agik-ik Elementary School and Balis Elementary Scool, both in Malita, Davao Occidental.

The committee also tackled four proposed measures that seek to establish cultural centers and museums in the Provinces of Kalinga, Cagayan de Oro and Biliran.
