THE DEPARTMENT of Education is hoping to reopen 100 schools for limited face-to-face classes.

“Our objective is to complete the 100 public schools,” DepEd Assistant Secretary Malcolm Garma said.

He said that 30 out of 59 schools approved by the Department of Health for the resumption of in-person classes will open on November 15.

“Madadagdagan pa ‘yan, in fact based on unofficial tally that it can already reach as of yesterday to 70 pero we need to revalidate,” he added.

However, he said DepEd cannot assure that 100 schools will open this school year as the resumption of classes will depend on the assessment of the DOH, local government units and parents.

“‘Yung 30 na nauna or 70 na susunod ‘yan na ‘yung sigurado na magsisimula. Now we don’t have to complete the 100, kung ilan lang talaga ‘yung pumasa based on the listing of DOH ayun lang ang ipapatuloy natin. Becasue we cannot force the 100 kung walang concurrence ng LGU,” Garma said.

Limited face-to-face classes will continue until the end of the school year unless there will be adverse scenarios, he said.

DepEd said the pilot run will initially be for two months.
