DEPED CONDEMNS TACLOBAN HIGH SCHOOL SHOOTING, DEPLOYS ASSISTANCE

THE DEPARTMENT of Education on Monday expressed its “gravest concern” over the shooting incident at San Jose National High School in Tacloban City, describing it as a high-alert situation.

According to the Philippine National Police (PNP) Region 8, three people were confirmed dead and five others injured in the shooting at the school.

In an official statement, DepEd said officials from its Central Office, along with personnel from its regional and division offices, have been deployed to the area and are coordinating with school authorities and law enforcement agencies to secure the campus and ensure the safety of learners and personnel.

The Department also said it is working closely with relevant government agencies to provide immediate medical and psychosocial support to those affected by the incident.

“To address the immediate emotional toll of this tragedy, the Department is working hand-in-hand with relevant government agencies to deploy critical medical assistance and appropriate psychosocial interventions for the affected learners and personnel,” DepEd said.

DepEd strongly condemned the violence and extended its condolences to the families of the victims, while offering prayers for the recovery of those injured.

“We strongly condemn this act of violence and extend our deepest condolences to the families of the victims, as well as our earnest prayers for the swift recovery of those who were injured. The Central Office is now mobilizing assistance to our affected learners,” the statement read.

The agency also urged the public to respect the privacy and dignity of the children involved and allow authorities to carry out a thorough and impartial investigation.

The Department reiterated that the safety, well-being, and mental health of learners and school personnel remain among its highest priorities.
