CREATION OF CRIME PREVENTION COMMITTEES IN SCHOOLS PUSHED

/ 30 December 2020

CAMARINES Sur 2nd District Rep. Luis Raymund Villafuerte Jr. filed a bill that seeks to establish crime prevention committees in higher education and technical vocational institutions.

House Bill 1770 or the proposed Campus Safety and Security Act aims to boost security in schools to protect students.

Villafuerte said that the CPC will formulate policies and programs against theft, robbery, rape and other forms of violence inside and outside campuses and school premises and conduct seminars on crime and drug prevention.

The measure mandates the creation of a Crime Prevention Strategy that shall be reviewed and approved by the Commission on Higher Education and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority to prevent criminal activities on-and-off-campus.

Under the bill, the CPC members, in consultation with the school head, the chief of police where the college or university is located, the barangay chairman and other security specialists, shall formulate policies concerning security and access to campus facilities.

The CPC will also conduct an intensive information drive on Crime Prevention Strategy.
