THE DEPARTMENT of Education said that Covid19 transmission in schools is possible especially with the holding of face-to-face classes.

“With the gathering of learners and teachers in classrooms, just like in offices and other establishments, Covid transmission is expected. What is important is we do not experience a surge where critical care utilization is exhausted,” DepEd Spokesperson Michael Poa said.

“Hence, [DepEd] is monitoring the situation and the schools in terms of the implementation and observation of minimum public health standards,” he added.

The department has been monitoring Covid9 cases in schools nationwide but it has yet to release data.

The agency earlier said that public schools should have an infection control plan or strategy amid warnings from health experts that infections may rise once physical classes resume.
