COMELEC TO WORK WITH DEPED ON REQUEST TO HIKE POLL WORKERS’ PAY

/ 17 April 2021

THE COMMISSION on Elections is willing to work with the Department of Education on its request for an increase in the salary of teachers who will serve in the next elections, its official said.

“The Comelec is willing to work with the DepEd in order to find ways to either accommodate their requests or, in the appropriate instances, to help them achieve the results they seek. The Comelec recognizes the invaluable role played by teachers in ensuring the success of elections,” Comelec spokesman James Jimenez said in a statement.

Education Secretary Leonor Briones earlier wrote to Comelec Chairman Sheriff Abas requesting for an increase in the honoraria for teaching and non-teaching personnel who will serve in the 2022 national and local polls.

The DepEd proposed a P9,000 compensation for the chairperson of The Board of Election Inspectors, P8,000 for its members, P7,000 for supervisors, and P5,000 for support staff.

It also asked a P500 daily Covid19 hazard pay for the poll workers.
