CHR TO DEPED: BALANCE STUDENTS’ WORKLOAD

/ 1 May 2021

THE COMMISSION on Human Rights called on the Department of Education to make sure that students are not overwhelmed with their workload to prevent burnout.

“While education must continue during this time of pandemic, workload must be balanced to prevent student burnout,” CHR Spokesperson Jacqueline Ann de Guia said.

The agency made the call after a Grade 10 student in Albay was reported to have committed suicide allegedly after complaining about his school modules.

De Guia said the commission has urged DepEd to look into the incident.

“To ascertain the true reason behind this unfortunate act of self-harm, we shall conduct an independent, parallel investigation together with local authorities,” she added.
