CHED APOLOGIZES FOR DELAY IN SUBSIDY FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS

/ 18 August 2020

THE COMMISSION on Higher Education has apologized for the delay in the subsidy for college students due to the pandemic.

“Medyo mabagal ‘yung pagbigay ng tertiary education subsidy. Humihingi kami ng pang-unawa pero unang-una, tinamaan talaga ng Covid19,” said CHED chairman Prospero ‘Popoy’ De Vera III as he admitted being saddened by the delay.

De Vera added that some state universities and colleges are giving the subsidy through the students’ bank accounts as the recipients would find it hard to  travel and go to the schools under the community quarantine.

He also clarified that the CHED budget for this academic year remains the same.

“For 2020, walang bawas. Intact ‘yung funding para sa RA 10931. Medyo nababagalan lang,” he added.

Republic Act no. 10931 promotes universal access to quality tertiary education by providing free tuition and other school fees in state universities and colleges.
