“ALLOWANCE PA MORE KINA TITSER,” URGES A LAWMAKER

/ 19 October 2020

ILOCOS  Norte 2nd District Rep. Angelo Barba filed a bill that seeks to grant public school teachers the Cost of Teaching and Learning Continuity Allowance.

In filing House Bill 7833 or the proposed COTALCA for Public-School Teachers Act, Barba said teachers serve as pillars of the education system and carry the great responsibility of shaping the future of the country.

“Yet, teachers, particularly in the public sector, are often overlooked. They have shouldered expenses for necessary tools of teaching and learning which the government has repeatedly failed to provide,” he said.

Under the measure, public school teachers will be given a P5,000 monthly cost of teaching allowance.

The allowance will be on top of the other benefits being enjoyed by teachers “to cover the expenses for teaching supplies and materials, preparation of lesson plans and for the conduct of various modes of learning delivery.”

The lawmaker believes that giving additional benefits to teachers will ensure quality tools for teaching and learning.
