/ 13 April 2022

THE ASIAN Development Bank on Tuesday donated more than $1 million worth of equipment to the Department of Education to boost the distance learning capability of the agency.

ADB Principal Country Specialist for the Philippines Alain Morel turned over to DepEd Undersecretary Nepomuceno Malaluan 3,500 pieces of android tablets, 46, 680 solar-powered transistor radios and 21 solar powered Wifi sets.

Malaluan thanked ADB for its support to distance learning.

“This will help us in achieving our goals under a learning continuity plan we developed shortly after the pandemic started. The project is even more important because it has a study component on the effectiveness of technology-assisted learning delivery in remote schools,” the undersecretary said.

The ADB said that the move is part of its $2.4 million grant set aside to support the education of disadvantaged secondary students. It received financial assistance from the Japan Fund for Prosperous and Resilient Asia and the Pacific for the project.

The target beneficiaries of the equipment are schools in the provinces of Abra, Kalinga, Bohol, Davao Oriental, Davao del Norte and Zamboanga Sibugay.

The ADB is also helping the education department in developing digital educational content for secondary students.
