ACT PRESENTS DEMANDS TO SARA

/ 14 July 2022

THE ALLIANCE of Concerned Teachers presented to Vice President and  Education Secretary Sara Duterte-Carpio the education sector’s 10-point challenge which was signed by more than 100 teachers’ organizations.

The group called for a dialogue with the DepEd chief to apprise her of the actual situation of teachers, parents and students.

“VP and DepEd Secretary Sara Duterte has expressed her intention of addressing the effects of the pandemic to our learners, and discussing about the K-12 program. Our teachers are in the best position to give her ground reports and an honest assessment of the situation,” Vladimer Quetua, the group’s chairperson, said.

Quetua said his group is ready to sit with Duterte-Carpio and discuss with her problems and propose solutions to the learning crisis, as well as planned review of the K to 12 program.

“We advise her not to repeat the mistake of former Education Secretary Leonor ‘Liling’ Briones who has not once faced ACT and our accredited unions in a dialogue despite our countless requests. Sans the democratic consultations, the former DepEd leadership was out of touch of the ground realities and has formulated policies that are unrealistic and has further burdened teachers and learners,” Quetua said.

“We call on VP Duterte to be more democratic and consultative in her style of  leadership so that the problems in the education sector can be solved faster,” he added.
