VISAYAS STATE U TO SET UP REGIONAL RESEARCH CENTER FOR GOATS

/ 28 March 2022

VISAYAS State University President Edgardo Tulin announced that the university will create two regional research centers for goats and herbs and spices in its Villaba campus.

Tulin led the blessing of new infrastructure projects in the campus and met with the campus’ officials to present the idea.

VSU said that the new centers are ideal in the place as it has a “vast grazing area of pastureland and cooler ambient temperature due to its relatively upland terrain,” according to the Department of Agriculture and Department of Science and Technology.

It added that helping boost the population of goat and sheep meat will greatly help the industry in the region. Also, because of the region’s suitability for livestock and crop production, a research center for high-value agricultural commodities like onions, bell peppers, among others, is needed.

Tulin said that industry experts will help VSU conduct research.

“I think it’s time that we harness this untapped strength so that we can also develop this component campus into a regional powerhouse in agricultural research just like in VSU Main Campus in Baybay City,” he added.
