VISAYAS STATE U DECRIES DRUG BUST IN CAMPUS

/ 15 August 2022

THE VISAYAS State University decried the failure of the police to coordinate with the school in the holding of a drug bust in campus.

This came after a personnel in Baybay campus was arrested on August 5 during a police operation wherein over P700,000 worth of suspected shabu was seized.

VSU said that its security guards could have apprehended the policemen who were in civilian attire which could have led to a shootout.

“The administration is concerned that the university was not asked for permission, coordinated with, or at least informed about the operation,” VSU Chief Legal Officer Rysan C. Guinocor said in a statement posted on the university’s Facebook page.

The university said that it is ready to coordinate with the police.

“With operatives entering the university’s jurisdiction discreetly in civilian attire and some armed, a simple misunderstanding with our security officers (who are also issued with firearms) could have jeopardized the safety of people in the area with serious implications,” it added.
