/ 24 October 2020

A THIRD year BS Accountancy student from the University of Santo Tomas was among the top 8 finalists in an international tax competition organized by the Ernst & Young Global Delivery Services.

Rovi Vitug, who was joined by two other Philippine contenders from the De La Salle University and Polytechnic University of the Philippines, battled with 17 students from Argentina and India in the finals of the Young Tax Professional of the Year 2020 contest.

“They were asked to answer and present their solution to the case study involving tax matters in front of the EY tax jury members. For the final battle, the 8 finalists were asked to answer another case involving taxation,” UST said.

“They were given 15 minutes to present their unique solution to a panel of judges. In the end, a female student from India emerged as the 2020 EY GDS Young Tax Professional of the Year,” it added.

The competition aims to recognize and foster the next generation of tax leaders from various countries including Argentina, India, Philippines, Poland and China.

More than 3,500 students from 25 universities joined the competition.
