/ 8 May 2021

TWO professors of the Department of Biological Sciences of the University of Santo Tomas were named Fellows of the Pioneering Intellectual Property Program for ASEAN Young Researchers.

Professor Thomas Edison dela Cruz and Joseph Carlo Vergel were invited to participate in a series of lectures from November 2020 to February 2021.

“Each session was delivered by IP professionals from LES societies in Australia, New Zealand, Italy, Spain, Portugal, France, Austria, and Singapore, the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and the European Patent Office,” UST said.

“Through the PIPP Fellowship, ASEAN young researchers were trained in the fundamentals of IP knowledge and engage with IP experts,” it added.

The participants coordinated with other professionals to promote interactions between scientists, industry, and business/investors.

ASEAN PIPP is the flagship program of the ASEAN Young Scientists Network in collaboration with the Licensing Executives Society International, particularly its Industry-University-Government Transactions Committee.

The initiative aims to develop a pool of researchers who will champion Science, Technology, and Innovation in the region.
