UPV CONDEMNS ‘RED-TAGGING’ OF STUDENTS

/ 13 May 2022

THE UNIVERSITY of the Philippines Visayas on Thursday condemned the alleged red-tagging of several students who expressed their sentiments on the recent elections on social media.

UPV Chancellor Dr. Clement Camposano said the students were unfairly branded as rebels for standing up to their convictions.

“These baseless accusations against our students are an affront to their basic right to exercise freedom of expression and opinion,” Camposano stressed.

“The irresponsible comments hurled against them in various group chats compromise their security and instill fear,” he added.

Camposano said that UPV will continue to uphold the right of every student, faculty and staff to freely express their opinions.

“It will continue to encourage the free exchange of ideas and promote critical-thinking among its constituents,” he said.

UP students earlier denounced the alleged harassment of members of the UP varsity teams because of their “affiliation with UP as an institution.
