UPLB OFFICIALS URGED TO EXTEND DEADLINES

OFFICIALS of the University of the Philippines Los Baños were urged to extend the deadline for the submission of requirements of students affected by the eruption of the Bulusan Volcano in Sorsogon.

The UPLB University Student Council asked the administrators to give priory to the students’ concerns.

“UPLB, having constituents residing in Sorsogon, has some students and faculty that are affected by this eruption and may require some assistance,” the student body said in a letter to UPLB Chancellor Dr. Jose Camacho Jr.

The USC said it is in close coordination with the Serve the People Brigade and Alliance of Varsitarian Organization to extend help to students who require some assistance.

“We are hoping that you consider this request for in the end, it will be for the benefit of our constituents,” the student body added.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology on Sunday raised the alert status of Bulusan Volcano from 0 (normal) to 1 (low-level unrest).

Phivolcs Director and Science Undersecretary Renato Solidum Jr. said the phreatic eruption occurred at 10:37 a.m. and it lasted for 17 minutes.
