UP VISAYAS TO BUILD NEW LIBRARY COMPLEX

/ 9 October 2020

THE UNIVERSITY  of the Philippines-Visayas will soon have a library complex in Miagao town, Iloilo province.

In a ceremony held on October 7, Chancellor Ricardo Babaran and Vice Chancellors Martin Genodepa and Mary Ann Gumban unveiled the scale model of the second phase of the library complex.

The project, started during the tenure of Chancellor Rommel Espinosa, was originally allocated P146 million. This was revised to become a 2-phase P360 million project that will include a world-class library, a theatre-type audio-visual hall, and executive offices, the university said.

The library complex is expected to be finished in 2021.

The present library can only accommodate the reading materials of the College of Arts and Sci-ences, College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences, Open Access Catalogue Area, a binding room, and the office of the librarians.

The library complex will provide more space for materials needed by its growing student popula-tion, the university said. It said that new degree programs will be offered.
