UP VISAYAS ALUMNI EXTEND AID TO CAGAYAN, CATANDUANES TYPHOON VICTIMS

/ 21 November 2020

ALUMNI of the University of the Philippines-Visayas donated P30,000 to help in the relief efforts in the provinces of Catanduanes and Cagayan.

Members of the Hamili Brotherhood and the Hamilia Sisterhood of UP Visayas turned over the gathered funds to UP Visayas Chancellor Clement Camposano to support UPV’s disaster relief operations.

The two groups launched the “Help for Catanduanes and Cagayan Fund Drive” last Sunday to respond to the needs of typhoon victims in Cagayan Valley and Catanduanes, which were severely ravaged by typhoons Ulysses and Rolly.

The hand-over of funds was attended by UP Hamili-Hamilia alumni and students, as well as UPV Alumni Director Rey Carlo Gonzales and Information and Publications Director Julie Prescott.

The Hamili-Hamilia also sent an initial donation of P25,000 to a group of UPV alumni from Tuguegarao led by Dr. Mildred Banatao.

“The group that is currently facilitating the relief efforts has already delivered blankets, gallons of water, and pails with basic needs such as rice, monggo, canned foods, noodles, and sanitary kits,” the university said.

The additional amount sent by the UPV organization will be used to extend assistance to more villages, which are still submerged in mud and floodwaters.

Also, eight boxes of new shirts from the university and Hamili-Hamilia’s previous donation drive and six boxes of goods will be sent to Catanduanes State University this weekend to aid survivors in the province.

The goods for Catanduanes will be received by Dr. Marilyn B. Panti, Director for Extension Services at CSU.
