UP LAW STUDENTS SHINE IN INT’L HUMANITARIAN LAW COMPETITION

LAW students of the University of the Philippines were the Grand Finalists at the 36th edition of the Jean-Pictet Competition on International Humanitarian Law.

The team composed of Joshua Simbillo, Berenice Joanna Dela Cruz, and Peter Joshua Ortega competed against Kenyatta University in the final round.

They were mentored by Professor Rommel Casis and were sponsored by the ICRC Delegation in Manila.

Eighteen teams participated in tne competition held in Durres, Albania from December 4 to 10, 2021.

The Jean-Pictet Competition is a training event in international humanitarian law for students representing a university or a comparable institution in teams of three persons.

The groups compete in the context of simulations and role-play exercises built around a fictitious armed conflict and the roles of different actors in that conflict such as military, humanitarian and political officers or lawyers.
