THE UNIVERSITY of the Philippines Diliman on Monday reminded its officials, teaching and non-teaching personnel to avoid engaging in electioneering and political activities.

In a memorandum, UPD Chancellor Fidel Nemenzo said that this is in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Commission on Elections and the Civil Service Commission.

“The UP Diliman administration affirms its non-partisan stand in relation to the upcoming 2022 national elections and kindly reminds all its officers and employees of the prohibitions against taking part in electioneering and political activities, whether directly or indirectly,” Nemenzo said.

He explained that the term “election campaign or partisan political activity” pertains to “acts that are designed to promote the election or defeat of a particular candidate or candidates to a public office.”

“In line with this, the use of UP Diliman grounds/facilities as venue for political meetings, campaigns, rallies, or other similar event is prohibited,” Nemenzo said.

However, activities that promote voter’s education such as forums, symposiums, and debates may be given consideration “subject to pertinent university guidelines.”

The CSC earlier said that partisan political activities are prohibited.

It said that such policy will ensure that civil servants are focused on the discharge of their duties and functions and to insulate them from politics.
