UP CEBU LAUDED FOR ‘INCLUSIVE’ GRAD POLICY
THE UNIVERSITY of the Philippines-Cebu received commendations for implementing an “inclusive” graduation dress code policy.
The university earlier announced that students can wear their preferred clothes for the 83rd graduation ceremony.
“All graduates will not be obliged to conform to heteronormative standards and there is also no need to ask permission from the administration or prepare a letter when doing so,” the UP Cebu Student Council said.
“As long as the graduation guidelines for academic costumes, such as color schemes and lengths, are still observed, graduating students may dress how they see fit,” it added.
Netizens noted that the move will enable members of the LGBTQIA+ to express themselves at the ceremony.
All students who graduated in 2020 and 2021 will join this year’s graduates in the ceremony.
