/ 30 June 2022

PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte has signed into law Republic Act 11860 which seeks to establish satellite campuses of the University of Eastern Philippines.

The law, signed on June 4, sets up UEP campuses in the towns of Allen, Victoria and Lavezares.

The new law authorizes the offering of short-term technical-vocational, as well as undergraduate and graduate courses to as many students in the area.

It mandates the three campuses to undertake research and extension services,.

The satellite campuses will be headed by a director and the budget for their operation will be included in the General Appropriations Act.

“This latest development in education is crucial to be able to respond to the human resources development needs of the province,” Northern Samar Governor Edwin Ongchuan said.

“With the growing economy comes also the need to capacitate people of Northern Samar in the different fields of industry, which UEP, as the sole state university in Northern Samar, must be able to provide in the long term, to support the development of the province,” Ongchuan added.
