UNIBERSIDAD DE MANILA PAYS TRIBUTE TO LATE FOUNDER AND MANILA MAYOR LIM
THE Unibersidad de Manila paid tribute to former Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim who succumbed to complications of Covid19 on Saturday.
He was 90.
The university asked for support to the family of the late mayor and senator in their moment of grief.
“It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Alfredo I. Lim, father of UDM… We request your ardent support and prayers in the moment of grief,” UDM said in a statement.
It was during Lim’s stint as re-elected mayor in the 90s that the school was first built.
Formerly known as City College of Manila, UDM was established in 1995 as per Ordinance No. 7885 during the mayoralty administration of Lim.
Lim was also chairman of UDM’s Board of Regents from 1995-1998 and 2007-2015.
Meanwhile, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno also paid tribute to the late mayor in his public address on Facebook, praising Lim for his many accomplishments in the city including the establishment of UDM.
“Ang isa sa pinakamalaki na hindi makakalimutan na programa ng ating dating mayor ay ang Unibersidad de Manila. Na ito’y nagbibigay ng libreng tertiary education, na hanggang ngyon ay nagagamit ng ating mahihirap na kababayan,” Moreno said.
The Manila mayor also emphasized the severity of Covid19 and reminded people to be cautious as the country’s infection rate continues to increase.
