UE SUSPENDS CLASSES IN ALL LEVELS

/ 15 January 2022

THE UNIVERSITY of the East on Friday suspended classes in Manila and Caloocan campuses from January 17 to 21.

“This is in light of the announcement of Manila Mayor Francisco M. Domagoso in about suspending classes from Jan. 14 to 21, 2022, across all levels in the City of Manila, and the University’s consultation with the Commission on Higher Education,” UE said.

Classes in tertiary levels will resume on January 24, while those with Saturday classes will be on January 22.

On Thursday, the mayor issued a show cause order against UE after the school refused to suspend classes for a week-long “health break.”

However, UE explained that the school management deemed it proper to defer making an announcement as officials were internally discussing the inclusion of UE Caloocan classes in “the overall impact of the suspension on the academic calendar.”

“Regarding the reported show cause order issued by the Office of the Mayor of the City of Manila, a soft copy of UE President and Chief Academic Officer Ester A. Garcia’s signed reply, featuring key points stated above, has been emailed to the Mayor’s office, while a hard copy will be sent to City Hall by Monday,” it said.
