UE STUDENT COUNCIL SLAMS COLLECTION OF SURCHARGE FEE

/ 8 June 2021

A STUDENT group in the University of the East-Manila decried the alleged anti-student policies of the school, including the collection of surcharge fee.

The University Student Council slammed the collection of surcharge fee, saying it is an additional burden to learners and their parents.

“Students are already having a hard time to settle their accounts and what more if the university will continue to impose surcharges,” USC said in a letter to UE President Ester Garcia.

The group also questioned the collection of various fees even amid distance learning and asked the school to provide a breakdown of charges for the on-job-training.

“Every cent must be justified most specially at this time of crisis wherein our financial capabilities are limited. The administration must be considerate on the situation of the students and must guarantee its promise of an affordable quality education,” it said.

The group also appealed to school officials to allow students with an outstanding balance to view their grades.

“We urge the administration to re-implement such action so that students will be able to know their academic standing. The pandemic has affected all of us and in these trying times, it is a must that we give extra consideration to this special and unforeseen circumstances,” it said.
