PROFESSORS in the University of the East were asked to explain why many of their students were given a grade of 1.0 in the first semester of Academic Year 2020-2021.

According to the UE-Caloocan Central Student Council, university president Ester Garcia called some faculty members to a meeting on Monday to ask them to justify their move of giving at least 50 percent of their students a final grade of 1.0.

“According to a letter of the University of the East Faculty Association, professors are required to attend a meeting with the University President on March 29,” the group said.

The UEFA stressed that the faculty members have explained their position on the issue and asserted that the “grades are final and rightfully given by the educators.”

“Thus, the Faculty Union believes that it is not necessary for the concerned faculty members to attend the said meeting on the abovementioned time and date,” it said.

The faculty members, through a letter signed by UEFA president Prof. Antonio Roland Co Po, asked Garcia what violation was committed by the concerned professors.

“The Union would like to know the exact provision/s of any University Academic Circular that our faculty members have violated. In our view, this move by your office will give additional pressure and stress to the faculty members that are now suffering from the extremely negative effects of this pandemic,” the letter read.
