UE FACULTY ASKS UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT TO RESIGN

/ 15 January 2022

THE UNIVERSITY of the East Faculty Association demanded the immediate resignation of the University President Ester Garcia for defying the order of the city government of Manila.

Garcia drew flak for refusing to follow the city government of Manila’s declaration of class suspension.

The group said that Garcia’s decision is “a clear defiance of the law and disobedience to the policies” of the local government.

“The actions of President Garcia caused embarrassment, put in a bad light the good name of the University of the East and ultimately, tainted the reputation of our beloved university including all its faculty members, employees, alumni and most especially, its students,” the UEFA said.

“UEFA and its members are calling for the immediate resignation of President Ester A. Garcia as the University of the East President,” it added.

Meanwhile, the group vowed to help prevent the spread of Covid19.

“Rest assured that UEFA and its members are in line with the policies and protocols of the government over the Covid-19 situation and will help in our own way to contribute against the nation’s fight to end the pandemic,” the group said.
