TIP STUDENT BAGS 2ND PRIZE IN INT’L STREET MUSEUM COMPETITION

/ 24 June 2022

FOR his architectural masterpiece of Philippine streets, a student from the Technological Institute of the Philippines placed second in the Street Museum competition of international publication ArchTwist.

Joshua Delos Santos, an architecture senior, was recognized for his magnum opus called “Reconnecting Communities through Filipino Street Culture.”

“My objective was to bring everyone closer to their roots and gain meaningful experiences from interacting and socializing. It’s not like a traditional museum where you just look at certain pieces of art,” Delos Santos said.

In his rendition of a typical 100-meter street, Delos Santos put up a central bike lane with spaces for learning, retail and recreation at the sides.

The stalls are made from sustainable materials like bamboo, metal and polycarbonate sheets.

“Mr. Delos Santos’s work gives a glimpse of the culture that we have at the Architecture Department of T.I.P. Manila. We’re all for building more livable cities for the people,” Nathaniel Cruz, program chair, said.

Hosted by Bangladesh, ArchTwist’s Street Museum welcomed entries from students and young professionals from Asia and Europe. It combines art, culture, history, education, and commerce.
