SILLIMAN U DONATES 150 BEDS TO ISOLATION FACILITIES

/ 12 June 2021

THE SILLIMAN University donated 150 wooden folding beds to the local government of Dumaguete to help address the bed shortage in isolation facilities.

The university turned over the beds to the Dumaguete City High School Quarantine Facility in Barangay Calindagan.

SU President Dr. Betty Cernol McCann said the donation is part of the school’s efforts to help the city in its fight against Covid19.

“Silliman is always ready to help the local government in any capacity it can, as part of our social responsibility to the community,” McCann said.

SU also converted its Davao Cottage and Channon Hall into isolation facilities for those who have mild Covid19 cases.

Dr. Walden Ursos, chief of the university’s Covid19 Crisis Management Group, said that the initiative aims to help the city decongest isolation facilities.

“Aside from Channon and Davao Cottage, Vernon Hall is also being utilized as an isolation facility for frontliners from SU Medical Center infected with the virus. The move eases the demand for bed spaces capacity of the hospital,” Ursos said.

Prof. Jane Annette Belarmino, vice president for development, called for donations from alumni and friends of SU.

She said that any help “whether big or small” is welcome to assist the LGU.
