RAMON MAGSAYSAY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AVAILS USE OF UV LIGHT AS MODULE DISINFECTANT

/ 2 December 2020

RAMON F. Magsaysay Elementary School in Daliaon District, Davao City has tapped the use of ultraviolet light as disinfectants for learning modules.

School principal Bernardo Pañares said UV light is an efficient and effective way of disinfecting since alcohol and other liquid disinfectants may damage the modules.

He also said after having researched, he was convinced that UV light is better and already available in the market.

“I started to do some research on UV light and I was convinced that it could be done in the school context as materials are readily available in the market. After getting all the needed things ready, I started to create some initial designs and finally have it manufactured by a handyman,” he added.

In his research, Pañares discovered that disinfection using UV light has been used in manufacturing industries, hospitals, laboratories, and malls.

In line with this, SDS Reynaldo Guillena immediately advised all public schools district supervisors to implement the technology in their respective districts.

More schools are constructing their own UV disinfection box as Pañares encourages further improving the method to hold more number of learning modules.
