PUP TO OFFER COURSE ABOUT PRESS UNDER MARTIAL LAW

THE POLYTECHNIC University of the Philippines will offer a new course that will tackle the state of the press under Martial Law.

Dubbed the Media, Politics and Martial Law, the new course aims to “discuss the significant events during the Martial Law period, including the freedom of the press, and its relation to the Philippine Media.”

According to PUP BroadCircle, the official academic organization of the College of Communication’s Department of Broadcasting, the course will be available starting Academic Year 2022-2023.

“Based on the important historical events during the Martial Law Period, this course aims to emphasize the role of the media in the society and its dynamic relationship with politics and governance,” Broad Circle said.

“This course also offers critical perspectives on democracy, media freedom, public opinion and related concepts to prepare students as future media professionals,” it added.

The course will tackle history, democracy and freedom of speech, news and public opinion, checks-and-balances and the branches of the government, the crony media, press freedom and media regulation under Martial Law, Media and Mythmaking, Mosquito Press and the Alternative Media, Broadcasting the EDSA Revolution, and the Philippine Media After Martial Law.
