PUP STUDENTS DECRY INVITATION OF ACT-CIS PARTYLIST REP TO WEBINAR

/ 7 April 2021

Some students from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines denounced the move of the Office of the Student Regent and Central Student Council to invite ACT-CIS Partylist Representative Nina Taduran to a webinar.

Taduran was one of the speakers in the “DON’T BREAK MY HEART!” health webinar.

The webinar also featured Dr. Gia Sison and Dr. Fides Maria Aileen Buenafe from the Department of Health.

The students pointed out that Taduran was one of the principal authors of the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020 which was vehemently condemned by student groups in PUP.

They also questioned why the OSR and CSC gave the lawmaker a platform as she is an “enabler of fascism.”

However, the CSC said that the move was only a matter of advocacy.

“The SKM, together with our partner organizations for this webinar would like to reiterate that this event is solely for our advocacy of promoting the health and well-being of our citizens, and the creation of a smoke-free environment for all,” CSC said on Facebook.

“The SKM remains firm in its position against the Anti-Terrorism Law, and we are one with all student formations and organizations calling for justice to all the victims of red-tagging, illegal arrests, and extrajudicial killings in the Duterte administration,” it added.
