PUP ASKED TO UPHOLD SOGIE RIGHTS FOR GRADUATION

/ 22 August 2022

THE POLYTECHNIC University of the Philippines was asked to uphold the students right to wear their graduation outfits that match their sexual orientation and gender identity.

The university is set to hold a face-to-face and virtual graduation in September.

The PUP Sentral na Konseho ng Mag-aaral said that it partnered with PUP Kasarianlan, an LBGTQ+ rights group in the university to craft a request letter.

The document is awaiting approval at the Office of the Gender and Development Office.

“While it should be imperative that these rights shall be put in no further objection as these are fundamental rights to gender, we are taking this initiative to further strengthen our request with data that is sensed through the target stakeholders, themselves,” PUP SKM said on Facebook.

A sensing form was issued by the council to get support from the studentry through https://bit.ly/3PDfFlB.

“It is worth mentioning that this form is open for all graduating students regardless of gender, for it is upon the basic premise of the rights to SOGIESC that [every one] of us has SOGIESC and, therefore, entitled to these rights,” it added.
