PLM URGED TO FIND SAFER WAY TO DISTRIBUTE STUDENTS’ CASH AID

/ 12 October 2020

AN ALLIANCE of student organizations in the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila called on Manila Mayor Francisco ‘Isko Moreno’ Domagoso and the school to find other ways to distribute the cash grant for students.

Bukluran Student Alliance said that the city opted to distribute the cash grant ‘the old-school style’ because of problems encountered on Gcash.

The cash aid will be handed to students in the school.

The PLM informed beneficiaries of the city’s social amelioration program that cash grants will be distributed starting October 7.

The alliance noted that quarantine protocols prohibit persons under 21 to go out. It added that claiming the cash grant should not be a burden on the families or students because traveling via public transport is risky.

“We call on Mayor Isko Moreno and PLM Administration to formulate other ways to distribute the said monthly allowance where safety and welfare of the students and their family are prioritized. We suggest, if the current issue with Gcash persists, to distribute it through the barangay where it is much safer and efficient for the students and their family as observed during past distributions amid the community quarantine,” the alliance said on Facebook.

The PLM administration has yet to issue a statement regarding the issue.
