THE PANGASINAN State University Asingan campus conducted a bonsai production training to become a potential source of income amid the pandemic.

PSU-AC said the training was conducted on its covered court to help people get into the bonsai production business.

Attendees were trained to choose better bonsai materials, wiring and positioning techniques for propagation, styling techniques like leaf trimming, pruning, wiring, clamping, and grafting through demonstrations.

They were also taught how to maintain proper cultivation and care of their bonsai trees with different techniques and tools to support their growth and long-term maintenance that increase their aesthetic appeal.

The speakers for the event were executives from the Bonsai and Suiseki Club of Pangasinan.

PSU-AC Campus Executive Director Dr. Valentin B. Calpo, Jr. also said bonsai production can help boost one’s mental health.

“No matter how stressful you are if you are with your plants like your bonsai plants, they can give a relax feeling and they have some psychological benefits which may help you to remove your mental stress,” he said.
