/ 9 December 2020

A RESEARCH conducted by a professor of the Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology was awarded as a Highly Commended Paper in the 2020 Emerald Literati Awards for Excellence.

The research of Dr. Hazel Jovita of the Department of Political Science with her fellow authors Dyah Mutiarin, Achmad Nurmandi, Mukti Fajar from Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta in Indonesia, and Yao-Nan Lien of Asia University in Taiwan, was recognized for being one of the most exceptional papers published in the journal in 2019.

The paper entitled “How do government regulations and policies respond to the growing online-enabled transportation service in Indonesia, the Philippines and Taiwan?” was published in the 21st volume of the Digital Policy, Regulation and Governance Journal of Emerald Publishing.

The study aims to explore the dynamic context of the sharing economy in the transportation sector and delved into the development of government regulations on the growing business of transportation network companies in Indonesia, the Philippines, and Taiwan.

“It is a comparative study on the regulations and policies imposed by the different governments of the Philippines, Indonesia, and Taiwan as a response to the growing online-enabled transportation service with focus on the differing income levels of these three countries,” Jovita said.

“Using the qualitative-comparative research methodology, the research found that the responses of the governments of Indonesia, Philippines, and Taiwan to the sharing economy sector are incremental and are trial-error based policies,” she added.
