IFUGAO STATE U HOLD TRAINING ON CANDY PRODUCTION FROM LAGUNDI LEAVES

/ 14 June 2021

THE IFUGAO State University trained residents of Barangay Nayon, Lamut, Ifugao on how to make candies from Lagundi leaves.

The project was based on the  Registered Utility Model on Production of Herbal Candy from Lagundi of Lilian Tumapang, Dean of IFSU College of Health Sciences. Ten women participated in the activity where they were taught from scratch.

Based on Tumapang’s model, Lagundi leaves are effective in treating common diseases. However, there are no products appealing enough for children to take.

“This introduced the process and composition of producing Lagundi candies that are appropriate for both adults and children,” IFSU said on Facebook.

“Based on the study, herbal plants like Lagundi are proven to be effective in the treatment of common diseases. They are processed into syrup, tablets, ointment, and creams, among other forms. However, these are less appealing or may not be appropriate for children to take in; hence, this model of processing Lagundi into candies that are more palatable to children,” it added.

A set of equipment and materials will be turned over to Barangay Nayon to help the trainees kickstart their operations.
