THE GUIMARAS State College has been converted into a state university, the first in the province of Guimaras.

The university announced the conferment of the status on its Facebook page.

The law that granted the college university status, Republic Act 11335, was signed by President Rodrigo Duterte in 2019.

GSC was established in 2001 through a merger of the Guimaras Polytechnic College in Buenavista and the Western Visayas College of Science and Technology-Jordan campus under Republic Act 9138.

The GSC marked it 21st Founding Anniversary on Wednesday, June 8, 2022.
