PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte has signed Republic Act 11680 which gives the Southern Luzon State University a 25-year broadcast franchise.

The law, signed on April 8, grants SLSU the right to construct, install, establish, operate and maintain a radio and television broadcasting station within its campus.

The franchise will be primarily used for educational purposes and will also help with the public interest.

The broadcast of information will be free of charge and the school can generate 10 percent of its income from paid commercials.

In a statement, SLSU President Doracie Zoleta Nantes said that having the franchise will help address the issue of inclusivity among its students.

She added that the franchise will also enable SLSU to promote culture through its programs.
