CENTRAL LUZON STATE U CONDEMNED FOR DRESS CODE PROTOCOL

/ 6 July 2022

THE CENTRAL Luzon State University drew flak from students after setting a dress code for the graduation ceremony.

The CLSU College of Arts and Social Sciences -Student Government expressed concern with the “internalized transphobia” of the dress code.

The group said that it is discriminatory and against the students’ freedom of expression.

“We believe the university should be a safe and gender-inclusive environment that empowers students to express their truest and fullest selves,” the student government said in a statement on Facebook.

“We firmly call for an inclusive graduation rite and that students should be permitted to dress based on their gender identity and/or expression,” it added.

It also called on the CLSU Gender and Development Office and the Office of Student Affairs to protect students’ freedom of expression at the graduation rites.
