BUKIDNON STATE U PROMOTES PH EAGLE CONSERVATION

/ 24 October 2020

TO DRUM up support for the conservation and protection of the Philippine Eagle, the Bukidnon State University held a film screening dedicated to the late environment hero of Bukidnon, Fr. Nerylito Satur.

The film dubbed “The Story of the Rarest Eagle on Earth: Bird of Prey To Save Our Eagle” was screened for BUkSU’s respective colleges in partnership with the Philippine Eagle Foundation and the Forest Foundation Philippines.

BukSU President Dr. Oscar B. Cabañelez said that the Philippine Eagle should be protected because the species reflects the image of the Philippines.

“We are honored in BukSU to have with us our partner organizations in the goal of saving the Philippine Eagle. We are one with all of you in this endeavor.  It is unfair that we did not create this species but our actions are destroying it. We are morally obliged to stop their extinction,” Cabañelez posted on BukSU’s website.

“Securing the eagle has become increasingly difficult for the country due to deforestation and conversion of their natural habitat into commercial areas,” he added.

According to the PEF, the movie has been screened in over 100 strategic venues. The screening at BukSU was watched by 3,000 people.

Meanwhile, the Arellano University has also contributed to the conservation of the Philippine Eagle by adopting one, along with two Pinker’s hawk-eagle.
