ATENEO ALUMNA AMONG RECIPIENTS OF DIANA AWARDS

/ 30 June 2021

AN ALUMNA of the Ateneo de Manila University is one of the recipients of the 2021 Diana Awards, which fosters, develops and inspire positive change in the lives of young people.

Shawntel Nicole Nieto was recognized for promoting sustainable development and supporting communities affected by the pandemic.

Nieto founded One Cainta Food Program to help more than 100,000 people in Cainta, Rizal gain access to food and relief.

“Shawntel seemed destined for a high-flying corporate career but spending time in marginalized communities in 2015 shifted her perspective, and her trajectory, forever,” The Diana Awards said.

“Following a steep learning curve to understand the dynamics of marginalization, Shawntel has established programs and campaigns to address the issues she saw around her. When the pandemic left 50,000 people in her city unemployed, she initiated a program that has provided food for a thousand people each day,” it added.

Established in memory of Diana, Princess of Wales, the award recognizes young people from around the world who inspire and serve their communities, creating “long-lasting change on a global scale.”
