6 QCU STUDENTS WIN PH VEX ROBOTICS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
SIX students of the Quezon City University robotics team won the Philippine VEX Robotics National Championship that earned them a spot at the upcoming VEX World Robotics Championship at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas, Texas, USA on May 9-11, 2025.
Commission on Higher Education Chairperson Prospero De Vera III, together with Commissioners Ethel Agnes Valenzuela and Desiderio Apag III, awarded medals of excellence and TES and TDP grants to QCU robotics team members John Daniel C. Cimanes, Prince L. Docot, Raniel Rick F. Peñas, Enerjhun Q. Relon, Arturo D. Marte Jr. II, and Rencis R. Sumugat.
The VEX World Championship is one of the most prestigious robotics competitions globally and recognized by Guinness World Records as the largest robotics competition in the world.
“One of the directives of President Bongbong Marcos is to ensure that more students engage in STEM-related career pursuits. Hence, the Commission is actively supporting universities to modernize their equipment and facilities to create an environment where students can innovate and engage in S&T,” De Vera said.
“The groundbreaking success of students of QCU, a local university, is proof of our strong commitment to supporting the academic development and growth of LUCs across the country,” De Vera added.
“Through the support of CHED and UniFAST, we have provided our students with an enabling environment through the modernization of equipment and upgrading of facilities. Our robotics laboratory is open for use and benchmarking of other universities,” QCU President Theresita V. Atienza said.
QCU robotics team designed and programmed robots to compete in the VEX skill challenges including rapid relays and high stakes, and design challenges.
The team will compete against over 100 universities from around the world in the VEX University Category.
“Maraming salamat, CHED, UniFAST, at QCU sa award na ito. I encourage other students who have passion for science and technology to pursue their dreams and engage in activities like robotics competitions,” QCU Robotics Team member John Daniel Cimanes said.
“Taos puso po kaming nagpapasalamat sa CHED-UniFAST sa binigay nilang financial assistance. Dahil po dito mas gagaan ang aming pag-aaral at mas mapapabuti ang aming skills sa robotics,” QCU Robotics Team member Enerjhun Relon said.
