/ 12 November 2022

A PROFESSOR from the Alfredo M. Velayo College of Accountancy of the University of Santo Tomas was named Outstanding Certified Public Accountant in Education by the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Dr. Patricia Empleo, dean of UST-AMV, was recognized for her achievements “as an accounting educator, for her outstanding contribution to Philippine accounting education, and for contributing to the prestige of the profession as practiced in the academe.”

Under Empleo’s leadership, UST’s BS Accountancy program received national and international recognition, with BSA being one of the first UST programs to get the ASEAN University Network Quality Assurance certification.

“The College likewise consistently produced registered certified public accountants, some of whom landing in the top ten spots,” the school said.

“Furthermore, the College was able to introduce the BS Accounting Information System program in 2018, following the transition brought about by K-12,” it added.

Meanwhile, the College’s secretary was named Young Achiever in Education by PICPA.

Fermin Antonio D.R. Yabut was recognized for his achievements as “an accounting educator at an early stage of his career, providing significant contributions to the education sector as a faculty.”

He was similarly acknowledged as an administrator of an accountancy degree-granting institution and a reviewer in CPA review school.
