SENATOR Pia Cayetano has called for stronger protection of children both in schools and online following the fatal shooting at Banga National High School in South Cotabato.

In a statement, Cayetano expressed sympathy to the victims’ families, the injured, and the entire school community, saying schools should remain safe places where children can learn and return home safely.

She urged the public to avoid speculation as authorities continue their investigation and appealed for support for those affected by the tragedy.

Cayetano stressed that while families, schools and communities must strengthen support systems for children, greater attention should also be given to the online spaces they frequent, including social media, messaging platforms and gaming communities.

She said digital platforms must also take responsibility by responding promptly to threats and preventing their services from being used to encourage violence or exploit children.

Cayetano added that protecting children requires a collective effort among families, communities, schools and technology companies.
