SENATOR Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan has called for stronger school safety protocols and measures to prevent copycat violence following the shooting at Banga National High School in South Cotabato.

Pangilinan expressed condolences to the families of those killed and injured, as well as to students, teachers and others traumatized by the incident, while urging authorities to conduct a swift, thorough and lawful investigation.

He also called for immediate medical and psychosocial assistance, along with long-term support for affected students, teachers and families.

The senator urged police to fully implement the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act, emphasizing that the law provides for accountability through legal and age-appropriate measures.

Pangilinan said schools, parents, communities, local governments and national agencies must work together to strengthen early intervention, reporting systems, mental health services, campus security and the responsible use of online platforms.

He added that the proposed Comprehensive School Safety Act, which is nearing Senate approval, would be an important step toward strengthening school safety nationwide.
